Decide your loss before you trade.
Most beginners think about how much they could win. Start with how much you can afford to lose, and size the trade to fit.
- Risk only a small share of your balance on one trade, for example 1%
- Place a stop-loss when you open the position
- Never trade money you need for bills
- Leverage is a tool for exposure, not a way to get rich quick
Buy, sell, and the spread.
Long (buy)
You expect the price to rise. You gain if it goes up and lose if it falls.
Short (sell)
You expect the price to fall. You gain if it goes down and lose if it rises.
Spread
The gap between the buy and sell price. It is a cost you pay when you open a trade.
A simple plan beats a good feeling.
Write a few rules before you trade and follow them. A plan removes guesswork when the market moves fast.
- Which markets you trade, and when
- What you risk per trade and per day
- Where your stop-loss and take-profit go
- When you stop for the day
